Unit 25 - Produce Copy for Interactive Media

Constraints depend on the auidence, as the younger audience are going to want something that looks less professional and more colourful compared to someone in the older generation. Older audiences want something more professional with a lot less colouring. This can be a problem for designers as they want thier product to be as most eye catching as possible. The main thing when using content management system is the coding issues you can come across. This is because it is very strict compared to html, you only have to make a tiny mistake and it can effect your whole website. It can also be a big issue changing the background image. The advantages of a content management system is that it is very easy to use which can be very useful for clients.

If you had a younger audience then you need to make sure that the style is suitable for them, you should also add more colour, and make it look less formal/ professional, but also more eyecatching at the same time, compared to a style for an older audience where you need to make it look more professional, add less colour, but also not to make it to boring/formal which can put off certain audiences. The main constraint is if they work together you may have a text that you like and if you put it into your product but it dosen't look right that is the problem you have making your website look the most professional and eye catchy. You need to structure you content so that its easy to read. You can spell check and make sure that all spelling is spelt correctly, you could have some to read what you have written to make sure that everything spelt correct grammar/punctuation. You can test your website on different web browsers by just clicking the preview button in dreamweaver and this would show you your website on a certain browser. When inseting text into my website I have had to make sure that all the stuff that is copied is annotated, I would also format it so that it is easy for everyone to read it. I inserted clear hyperlinks when doing my website and my blog to make sure that the reader a better example of what I'm talking about. My portfolio and my 1 page website is the best example of metadata because they have links to other websites for example my portfolio has links to Facebook, twitter, flickr, and blogger.

Unit 07 – Creative Industry Awareness

Workers in the creative industry are counted by what they do. For example someone who plays a instrument is classed as a musician. The prospective of this is to count the number of workers and firms in one location, and helps identify creative activity. Furthermore, it counts to someone who is working for a creative company but isn't exactly being creative for example a security guard working for a creative industry is still creatively employed. Cultural industries are an adjunct-sector of the creative industries. Cultural industries include industries that focus on cultural heritage and tourism like, museums and libraries, sports and outdoor activities, and many more. The cultural industries are more concerned about delivering other kinds of value, including cultural wealth and social, rather than primarily providing monetary value.

Most businesses have aims and objectives to succeed, whereas some business benefit from taking stock to determined what their objectives and aims are. If you want to have a successful business you need certain qualities. A business needs a good reputation, this is so that people know what this business is about, it also shows how good a business is if it has a good reputation. If a business has a good reputation it is more likely to get more customers. Furthermore it is important to have good advertisement. This can be both online and on the TV or even on a billboard so that people will notice it and that way you can pull in more customers. It is also very important that you business makes good profit because if you don't make profit then the business could go bust. You must also make sure that you have enough to pay your employees as well as to buy new materials to make more products. Finally you need to have plans for the future and plan ahead and maybe make more of you business.

The Project Life Cycle is a logical sequence of activities. Projects that are created go through 4 phases. The first one is the birth phase this is where everything is defined. Then the planning phase which is when the project is being planned out. Next comes the execution phase which is when the project is being built and finally there is the exit phase which is when the project has been successfully developed.
Initiation - This is the beginning of the project. This is where the project manager is appointed and has to select his team members based on their skills and experience. the most basic tools used during initiation are a project charter, a business plan, the project framework, the business case justification and the milestone reviews.
Planning - The second phase should include a detailed identification and assignment of each task until the end of the project. It should also include a risk analysis and a definition of a criteria for the successful completion of each deliverable. The governance process is defined, stake holders identified and reporting frequency and channels agreed. The most common tools or methodologies used in the planning stage are Business Plan and Milestones Reviews.
Execution and Controlling - The most important issue in this phase is to ensure project activities are properly executed and controlled. During the execution phase, the planned solution is implemented to solve the problem specified in the project's requirements. In product and system development, a design resulting in a specific set of product requirements is created. This convergence is measured by prototypes, testing, and reviews. As the execution phase progresses, groups across the organisation become more deeply involved in planning for the final testing, production, and support. The most common tools or methodologies used in the execution phase are an update of risk analysis and score cards, in addition to business Plan and milestones reviews.
Closure or Exit - In this last stage, the project manager must ensure that the project is brought to itsproper completion. The closure phase is characterized by a written formal project review report containing the following components: a formal acceptance of the final product by the client, Weighted Critical Measurements (matching the initial requirements specified by the client with the final delivered product), rewarding the team, a list of lessons learned, releasing project resources, and a formal project closure notification to higher management. No special tool or methodology is needed during the closure phase.

If you develop a project for a company you have to make sure that everyone is working well and cooperating properly so the project ends up being the best. You also need to get along with everyone you work with even if you don't like a colleague, it is important so your work ends up the best. There are eight members of a team, the creators and these are broken up into two sections, The plant and the resource, next is the leaders and again these are split into two. The coordinator and the shaper, next comes the implementer. Again these are split in two. They are the team builder and the team implementer, also the completers, These are people who finish up the task and again they are split into two groups. The monitor evaluator and the completer finisher.

Unit 6 - Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risks to Health and Safety

In work you need to make sure that everything around you is safe. It is important for everything in the work place to be safe because one minor thing could turn in to one serious thing. You have to make sure that if you are on computers that all wires are tucked in as someone could trip and injure themselves, also you need to keep water/liquids away from electrical appliances. If you are lifting heavy objects you need to make sure that you are lifting them correctly as if you don't it could result in an injury. Also you also need to take note of wet floor signs and make sure that wet floor signs are visible as someone could slip and this could cause an injury.

If an accident occurs you must know where everything is situated in your workplace. You must make sure that you know where the nearest fire extinguisher is. You must make sure that sockets aren't overloaded so that a fire or electrical fault doesnt break out. You must make sure that shelfs aren't overloaded with stuff as they could fall off and hurt someone. You also need to make sure that you know where the first aid kit is situated in your workplace incase you need it in an immediate accident.

At work you are entitled to 20 minutes break for every six hours that you work in that day, you can not take your break at the beginning/ end of the day it has to be in between. A worker is entitled to an 11 hour daily rest during any 24 hour period. This means that when you have finished work you must have at least 11 hours to yourself. An adult worker is entitled to 1 day off a week and this can be averaged over two weeks. If a young worker is working for more than four and a half hours then they are entitled to a 30 minute break. Young workers are also entitled to 2 days off each week and this cannot be avereged over two weeks.

Unit 5 - Contribute to Good Working Relationships

When talking to people in the work place you need to make sure that you can communicate well. You need to be yourself and that way people will see you as an individual. Also, when you are talking to people make sure you give them eye contact, don't be looking at the floor or away from them, this will make you look ignorant and the people you are talking to won't be able to hear you clearly. It is also important that when you are being spoken to that you listen and don't drift off because what you are hearing could be very beneficial to you. Even if it doesn't always make full sense. You also need to speak clearly and project your voice.

You have to try not to be self - centred and take others in to consideration and make sure that everyone else is happy with decisions. If you have got to ask for something then don't be afraid but take into account what other people want too.

Sometimes not everybody is nice and easy to get along with. Some people are nasty and like to wind you up for the fun of it. What you should do with situations like these is figure out ways to avoid it. Steer clear of situations where you know you will get angry and upset. You should avoid getting stressed out by work to. Don't get held back with doing work, make sure that you hit all the deadline dates and make sure that your work is at its highest standard possible.

When at work you need to build relationships with each other. This doesn't just mean other members of staff this also means people who you are doing work for, the customers and freelancers. When in work even if you don't like someone or don't talk to them doesn't mean you have to be arrogant towards them. You may not like a person but if you do something simple to help them they will think highly of you. If something goes wrong in the work place you shouldn't go around blaming others and pointing the finger. What you should do it communicate between each other and figure out how you can solve the problem. Remember that respect is earned. What you must also remember is that when you are working you aren't just working for yourself or with one other person, you're all doing the same job and should all be taking part in group activities. If someone new joins the group don't be nasty to them just be friendly, make them feel welcome in the group. Furthermore, when doing group work you should the everyone's opinions in to account, and don't leave anyone else out.

Unit 04 – Professional Behaviour in the creative media sector

Culture in the workplace will be different where ever you go. Challenging behaviour in the workplace is something that someone does which can hurt or humiliate the company from not following health and safety rules. Using your mobile in the workplace and also using the computers for personal use instead of business use can also be challenging behaviour.

If there was a fire you would report to your supervisor, managers, or the building owners ect if it was a work issue, for example computers not working you would report it to your supervisor or computer technician. If it was a problem with the lift you would report it to the building owners so they could fix the problem.

Employees would be more calm than employers because employees only have to do their job, whereas employers have to make sure that the employee's are making enough production and also make sure that there making money for them. They need to act more professional than employees.

Unit 3 - Awareness of Converging Digital Technology within the Creative Media Sector

Computers are the main type of technology used in the creative media sector. Every type of person using them from a graphical designer to web developers. Graphical designers may use scanners/printers to print out work or insert work the same with web designers, web developers would not use printers/scanners on a regular basis, they will also use mobile devices to communicate with clients. Web developers would really only use dream weave and other web development software programs.Graphical designers would use printers/scanners they would use photoshop, illustrator to design their work. Web designers would also use printers/scanners but will also use photoshop, illustrator, and dreamweaver.

Copyright is a big issue within the creative a digital media section. If you had a design you don't want anyone to copy you would copyright it and if a person copies that design you can take them to court because you paid to make sure that your design is protected. File sharing is a legal product because you're sharing stuff which in a way can help that person your copying from get publicity. Its illegal if the product is copyright because your sharing data that is protected from. Doing so can damage a company and that is why they got a copyright in the first place to make sure that their data can't be copied.

Converging technology is all different formats getting transferred or getting used at the same time e.g. video and audio is converging technology because your showing video and you're showing audio. It has really changed the creative and digital section because people can now put videos music pictures text on their webpage ,magazine ect which can be useful instead of putting a picture on 1 page and text on the other because of conflicting issues. Audience now a days expect better products for cheaper prices with big competition these days. Companies have to design better products at a cheaper price. On demand tv most customers now expect that for free or included in the TV package because of the increase In competition.

Paypal is the main example of a Safeway to buy something online. You buy maybe a game and you have to pay commotion to use Paypal which can be annoying to some customers because they have to pay extra to use that service. The media can exploit converging technology for example, if someone catches a celebrity they could video it and send it to the media who will exploit that person in question which can be damaging to them but if there wasn't converging technology then their would not be as much news because of the evidence factor. Youtube is the most popular type of converging technology online. It was established in 2005 and is widely used around the world. It is used on every platform and can be translated to every language around the world. Youtube you can post video, either with audio or without, and people can comment depending on that video.

Unit 2 - Communicating and Presenting Ideas in the Creative Media Sector

You can communicate with people by telephone. This is a good way to communicate if you want to get in contact with someone quickly. An email is a good way to contact someone if you want to send them an image as it is a much cheaper way, it is also a fast way to communicate.

To communicate ideas effectively it is good to have face face action as you know that they are listening and paying attention to what you have to say. By webcam you get to see their face, which is also effective if you want good communication with someone. If you can't talk to them by phone or email you're other won't be very effective because you won't hear or see them.

To give constructive feedback you need to be honest as possible. This will help the person so they can improve on future projects to get your approval if you're receiving feedback. Also, whatever feedback you get you take it and you improve your product depending on your feedback.

You can talk to people and show videos in a presentation to make sure that all types of your audience understand what you are saying. You have to evaluate your audience to see that you may have a less technical minded audience so you will have to make the presentation more clearer and take more time to explain words to make them understand what your saying. You may also want to show them videos or sound to make them understand better than just speaking. If its a more technical audience you will not explain many words because you don't want to humiliate their technical knowledge which is why you need to spend less time talking.

Unit 1 - Awareness of Employment within the Creative Media Sector

There are three types of employment status - you could either be a 'worker', an 'employee' or 'self-employed'. Your employment status will help define what rights and responsibilities you have at work. Find out the basic employment rights for each employment status.

Workers - 'Workers' are defined more widely than employees and are different from the genuinely self-employed. The status of worker includes individuals working under a variety of contracts. Employees are workers, but employees have different employment rights and responsibilities than workers.

As a worker you are entitled to core employment rights, including the right to:
receive the National Minimum Wage
protection against unlawful deduction from wages
a minimum period of paid holiday (annual leave)
minimum length of rest breaks
not work more than 48 hours on average per week or to opt out of this right if you choose
protection against unlawful discrimination (including less favourable treatment on the grounds of part-time status)
protection for 'whistleblowing' (reporting wrongdoing in the workplace)

You may also be entitled to:
Statutory Maternity, Paternity or Adoption Pay
Statutory Sick Pay

Employees - The 'employee' status applies to the largest group of people in the workplace. All employees are workers, but as an employee you have a wider range of employment rights and responsibilities to and from your employer. For example, you will need to give a minimum notice period if you wish to leave your job.

Employees work under an employment contract (also known as a contract of service). This is normally a written contract but doesn't have to be, it could also be spoken or implied or a mix of all three. For more information on employment contracts, read 'Employment contracts'.

As an employee, you rights include all of the rights workers have, plus the right to:
a minimum statement of employment terms
Statutory Sick Pay
minimum notice periods if your employment will be ending (eg if your employer is dismissing you)
not be unfairly dismissed
maternity, paternity and adoption leave and pay
request flexible working
time off for emergencies
Statutory Redundancy Pay

Some of these rights require a minimum length of continuous service with your employer before you qualify for them.

Self-employed - Some employees may also have enhanced entitlements, over and above their statutory rights. These would be part of your employment contract's terms and conditions. For example, your employer could decide to give you more generous notice periods or sick pay. Employment legislation does not generally cover self-employed people because you are, in effect, your own boss. You will benefit from protection for your health and safety and, in some cases, protection against discrimination. Your rights and responsibilities would be set out by the terms of the contract you have with your client.

Self-employed people are usually identified by the fact that they are in business for themselves and provide a service to multiple clients. Self-employed people are generally more independent than workers. They have far greater control over how and when to deliver the service and who delivers it. They will usually be better able to protect their own commercial interests, although they will bear any financial risk from the business they operate.

If you are self-employed, you must:

register with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
submit an annual tax return
account for your own tax and National Insurance payments

Tax and National Insurance as an employee is taken out of your wages automatically, but being self employed you have to deal with this on your own accord. A list of graphic design and web design companies in the north east can be found simply and easily by searching this website.. http://www.viewcreatives.com.

A self employed person needs these qualities..

Innovation

Self-confident all-rounder

Perseverance and resilience

Results orientated

Professional risk taking

Total commitment

and the skills a employee should have are as listed..

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Self-motivation and a keenness to learn

Flexibility to manage multiple tasks

Computer literacy

Ability to work in a team

Analytical problem solving and the ability to plan, organise, and reflect

Honesty, integrity and reliability

I have decided to change the theme of my portfolio completely as the one that I was creating was very informal. I have decided to make a more formal one. The theme I have gone for on my new design is black and white with a minor splash of bright red. I have decided to call myself Duggan's Design's. So far on my portfolio I have placed everything in place and added a photo stream from Flickr to my work, I also have a rollover image on my header. I need to link everything up, my Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, and Flickr pages, I also need to link my header to a page that will tell you what my website is about and about me, I also need to design my own logo. Here it is so far.

Design Crowd

In design crowd I created a logo for a company, the company wanted a logo that was for a clothing store for maternity and baby clothing, the company didn't give a name for the logo so i came up with the name Baby and Bump and came up with this logo.

I have also been working on another project on Design Crowd, the project is a logo for Pets4Homes as they wanted a new one creating as they didn't like their old one, this is the logo that i created.

20th February
Today I made a Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr account that are going to link up to my one page website of my portfolio that i am creating. I also linked Flickr up with my blog, and added some pictures and videos of my work on each of the accounts that I have created.

21st February
Today I started designing my portfolio website in photoshop, when I had an idea of what my website was going to look like I decided to start making part of it in dreamweaver. So far in dreamweaver I have put my background in, I have decided to go for a rainbow theme for my portfolio website, so I have a rainbow type background. Also in dreamweaver I have added my header in, and I have also added my four pages in, my Facebook, twitter, flickr, and blogger pages, I just need to link them up into pop up windows, and I also need to add text and pictures into my dreamweaver design. This is what it looks like so far...

Desktop Recording

Today I did a desktop recording of me starting to create a logo called Pets4Homes that I discovered on design crowd. To start creating the logo I went on to Photoshop and started to design it on that programme as I think its the best when creating logos, and any other type of designs. I went on the website DaFont.com to get my font as the ordinary fonts that were originally there were quite bland. I have decided to turn the "H" out of the word Homes into a house, and the "P" out of Pets into a cat. I am not yet finished the logo and am going to be altering the colours of the logo and making a few changes to the design. Here is the desktop recording of me creating the first part of the Pets4Homes logo. (15 minutes)

Chelsea Duggan (one page website)

For the last couple of month I have been creating a one page website on cosmetics called Barry M, which is a cosmetic company. I picked to do the one page website on cosmetics as it is something I like and am interested in. I also thought that it would be a good website to create.

When making my one page website I decided that the target audience was going to be aimed at girls/women at any age range as my one page website is about cosmetics. I decided to use feminine colours like pinks and purples and make the website look like it was aimed at girls/women wanting to buy cosmetics so it would attract this type of audience to the website. I made sure that I put pictures of cosmetics on my one page website like lipsticks and nail varnishes to make sure that the target audience know what my website is about, and so it would attract the target audience to the website.

When designing my one page website I designed it on photoshop, then when I had designed it on photoshop I sliced and created my one page website on dreamweaver using variuos html, css text,  and coding. To create my website design I also linked various parts of my one page website to the official Barry M cosmetics website.

When looking at my photoshop design I created, and the dreamweaver version of my one page website I created, I think that they look quite similar, but I did make a few changes to the one page website as when I was creating the design on dreamweaver I thought that certain things looked better than what my original design of my website did on photoshop. For example, I changed the text on the main content of my one page website to the same text as I have on my logo, I thought this fitted in more with my design and it also made my one page website look more feminine. I also changed the colour of the text on my one page website to black, as my photoshop version has pink writing on the main content and it is quite hard to read. Whereas black text is easier to read and it also made my website I created on dreamweaver easier to read as on the photoshop version there looked like there was too much pink used, but when I changed the text to black in the dreamweaver version this broke the website up and made it look more attractive and clear. Also, in my photoshop version of my website I had my main content in four separate pink boxes. I decided to change this on dreamweaver as it looked better when the boxes wasn't there as it looked clearer and went with the theme of the website more, also with the pink boxes, it looked like there was too much pink and without the boxes it made it look more advanced and clear. I also changed the text in the navigation bar on my dreamweaver design to a normal smooth text so my website wasn't the same text throughout as it would just look plain and boring if the same text was used. So by using the text I used on the navigation bar it made my design look more clear and broke the continuous text up. Apart from them few things I didn't change anything else on my design on dreamweaver compared to my design on photoshop. Here is a photo of my design on photoshop, and a photo of my final design on dreamweaver.

                                                         Photoshop Design

                                                      Dreamweaver Design

When I created my one page website on dreamweaver, I had to make sure that it is cross browser compatible. This means that I had to make sure that my one page website worked on every web browser. Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Google chrome. My website worked on all five of these web browsers that meant that everyone would be able to access it from any web browser, and it also meant that none of my websites coding or links were broken/wrong. Here are some images of my website in some web browsers.

                                                                 Safari
                                                                Firefox

When making my one page website on dreamweaver I used various css text, css, hyperlinks and style sheets. I used the css text on my website for the text inside my main content. I also used css to create certain effects on things on my website like shadowing text on my website and adding box shadow in to my website using the css on dreamweaver. I used style sheets on my web design to give different types of styles to certain things on my web site like colours, sizes, and font etc. I used hyperlinks to link everything together, my navigation bar links to parts of the official Barry M website the home, buy online, reviews, and fun all link to the Barry M website, also the login, wishlist, and shopping basket link to their website too, and my Facebook and twitter buttons are linked up to the official Barry M Facebook page and Twitter page, I linked all these up by using the hyperlinks on dreamweaver. Below is two images, an image of the coding used for a part of my website, and the image that was created by the coding that has been used. The blue section of coding shows a link, the link links up to part of the official Barry M website and also shows where the link is on the image below highlighted in blue.

When I had finished creating my final web design on dreamweaver I needed to transfer it to the web. I did this by creating my own account by using a free web hosting site called, x10 hosting. When I signed up to the account it meant that I could host my one page website design for free on the web. When I did this anyone would be able to access my website, from any web browser.

When I had finished creating my website I had to test it and make sure that it was suitable to go as a live website, i had to give ethnical consideration. This means I had to make sure that the colours, videos, language, and pictures were suitable and did not offend anyone that would visit my website. Also I had to make sure that it was suitable for any age range to visit. I also had to make sure that none of my stuff on my one page website wasn't copy righted, this means to make sure that i had no copied images or text without online permission. When I tested my website out I discovered that it was not offensive to anyone and was suitable and safe to go as a live website. This meant that anyone, at any age range, would be able to visit my website, without a warning on my website page, and without anyone getting offended.

When creating my website, the use of content i put into my website was things like, different kinds of images of cosmetics, I put these images in as it went with the whole content of my web design. I also used a font called lipstick traces in my content, I used this font as it fitted in well with my website design, I used this font as my header, and also on my main content of my design. Furthermore, I also put a video on my website, the video fits in well with the content of my design, at it is a make-up tutorial.

My final thoughts on my one page website is that it has turned out how I expected it, it is quite different from the photoshop design I originally created, but it is better because the things that I changed on dreamweaver make my website look better, so I think that it has turned out quite well. If i had to change anything about my one page website it would be to maybe add a bit more text/ different types of font on to the website, also maybe have one or two more images, and maybe an extra feminine colour that goes with the theme of my website, to break my website up more and make it look more attractive. I have also benefited from this experience of making a one page website, as i never knew how to make one before, and now I do, and I think that it was a good thing to learn and may want to make websites in the future, and this experience will have helped me do so. So I think I have benefited very well from this experience.
